You may recall our earlier blog in mid December  Pay award about the pay award for Local Government employees. This will cover support staff in schools and academies on NJC payscales.  A final offer was made to unions regarding a two year deal. It seems this may be an issue as two of the three unions are now consulting their members with a recommendation that it be rejected.
The Local Government Association have said that they hope the offer will be accepted. However, if it is not, then the whole process will no doubt be delayed. Therefore it is advisable for employers with staff in scope for the award to make some provisions in respect of the National Living Wage which comes into force on 1 April 2016.  The hourly rate for scale points 6 – 8 will fall below the requirements so employers will need to bring those rates up to the £7.20 for those staff aged 25 +.
