Multi Academy Trusts (MAT’s) are growing in popularity. In this brave new world we are seeing many styles of MAT’s evolving.

At one end of the spectrum some MAT’s are loose associations under a common banner allowing pooling of resources.

At the other end of the scale are those national and regional MAT’s spanning many Local Authority areas. These larger MAT’s bring their own skills expertise and resource to bear to develop and improve educational standards across their organisations.

On a payroll front MAT’s can have needs over and above individual Academy requirements. Typically there is a drive toward standardisation across the board from input to reporting and approval. There is also a need to have a small payroll team focussed on the needs of the MAT itself, building the close knit relationship with the individual Academies and “Head Office”
